The United States was blessed with a spectacular total solar eclipse on Monday, August 21, 2017. The eclipse was visible from coast-to-coast. I traveled to Grandjean, Idaho. I figured it was be pretty sparsely populated. I was wrong, but that only added to the party atmosphere. Several images are shown. The image on the upper right was taken fairly soon after first contact. Look carefully, and you'll see several sunspots. Below that is an image of the famed 'diamond ring' effect (complete with a little lens flare). A 'pushed' image of totality appears on the right. Earthshine has illuminated a few details on the lunar surface. Also, the star, Regulus, is visible. On the bottom is a portion of the eclipse series that I imaged. |
