Whenever a full moon occurs near the ecliptic (the imaginary line that the Sun traces through the sky) a lunar eclipse will take place. Such events happen most years, but vary in their duration and intensity. A partcularly beautiful lunar eclipse occured on October 27, 2004. Totality lasted well over an hour. I captured the event from a location just Northeast from the East Mesa Branch of the Dona Ana Community College through my C11. The collage in the middle left won honorable mention at the annual LodeStar Astrophoto contest. Clicking on any of the pictures above will bring up a larger image. |
