Comet Panstarrs (C/2011 L4) was the first of the supposed 2013 super comets, and it was the first of the 2013 comets to not live up to expectations. Nonetheless, the comet put on a decent showing for a few days in mid-March Here's an image taken with my C11/Hyperstar on Tuesday evening (3/12/13) at a student astrophotography session at a local community college where I do some instruction. Just for the fun of it, I used the nearby crescent Moon as a key to do a G2v (-like) color compensation on the image. Result was a nice blue ion tail with a hint of green in the coma. Negative is shown in the inset. Clicking the above image will bring up a higher resolution image. |
