The Rho Ophiuchi complex is an expansive area of stars and nebulae covering roughly a 4° x 6° area of the sky near Scorpius. The interplay of starlight, gas and dust create a myriad of colors. The complex contains several star-forming regions that are visible in infrared. The complex is estimated to be about 3000 solar masses. It's relative close at around 500 light-years. Guided color images were captured using a modified Canon T2i Clicking the above image will bring up an image with a wider field of view. |
