NGC 1977 - The Running Man Nebula (imaged from Hilltop Lakes, TX) |
Object Information Imaging Details |
The Running Man Nebula is a dim nebula that lies about a degree north from the Orion Nebula. The nebula images primarily in blue due to the reflection of gas and dust from stars in the area. However, there is also some emission and dark nebulosity evident. The nebula is difficult to see visually - even through a telescope of moderate apeture. This image was taken in late December, 2007 from my in-laws yard in Hilltop Lakes, TX (about 2 hrs ENE of Austin). Transparency and seeing were good. Clicking the above image will bring up a higher resolution image. |
