A beautiful total eclipse of the moon occurred during the pre-dawn hours of August 28, 2007. The Western sky was mostly cloudy for the beginning of the event, but cleared shortly after totality began. The two images on the left were taken when the moon was partially obscured by clouds. The top-left pic was neat since the bright wedge was obscured by clouds allowing the orange-colored eclipsed portion to show its colors in a single exposure. The bottom-left image looks more like Mars than the Moon. Also shown are mid-totality (top right) and U3 (bottom-right). I captured the event from the Cattle Baron's Restaurant parking lot (near the Mesilla Valley Mall). |
