Object Information Imaging Details |

M106 is an beautiful spiral galaxy in the constellation Canes Venatici. It was discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1781. M106 is at a distance of about 23 million light-years away from Earth. The image was captured during a three-night visit to Rusty's RV (near Rodeo, NM). It was my first time there. While not as dark as the Gila's Cosmic Campground, the RV park has excellent dark skies. I was impressed with the facility. The widefield image contains several other galaxies. A mouseover of the image (above) will bring up a labelled version of the region. Clicking the above image will bring up an image with a wider field of view.
